RV Maintenance Checklist: Monthly, Seasonal, and Annual Tasks

An owner-friendly checklist for routine inspections, seasonal preparation, and annual service.

Before every trip

Check tires and wheel condition, exterior lights, hitch or tow connections, fluid leaks, roof-mounted equipment, steps, doors, windows, and safety detectors. Test shore power, batteries, water pump, and major appliances before departure.

Confirm that loose items are secured and the RV’s weight and towing setup remain within manufacturer limits.

Monthly while in use

Inspect roof and exterior seals, look for interior moisture, clean AC filters, inspect plumbing for drips, test smoke/CO/propane detectors, and review battery condition as its manufacturer specifies.

Record any change from the previous month. A dated photo can be more useful than a vague note.

Seasonal work

Spring: inspect after storage, de-winterize and sanitize the fresh-water system according to your manual, check tires and brakes, and test appliances. Summer: focus on AC airflow, cooling, seal condition, and tire pressure. Fall: inspect the roof and plan winterization before a freeze. Winter: monitor storage conditions and batteries.

Climate and usage change the timing. A full-time RV may need more frequent checks than a weekend trailer.

Annual service

Review chassis or tow-vehicle service, brakes, bearings where applicable, roof condition, appliances, propane system, and safety equipment. Use the maintenance schedules for the specific chassis, trailer, and installed components.
